The Process

How a visit works

Every step flows through your veterinarian. RVT In-Home Pet Care is an extension of their care plan, not a substitute for it. We work under your pet's written veterinary orders, ensuring your pet receives consistent, professional care at home, with clear communication back to your clinic after every visit.
1

Vet issues orders

Your vet provides written standing orders for the services your pet needs under an active VCPR.

2

Visit scheduled

A licensed RVT is matched to your pet and confirmed for a visit at your home.

3

Care delivered

The RVT performs only the authorized services, safely and humanely, in your home.

4

Clinic notified

A structured report is sent back to your clinic after every single visit.

Our Standards

Built for compliance, not just convenience

Every part of RVT In-Home Pet Care is designed to meet California veterinary law. We take the regulatory framework seriously so you don't have to worry about it.
🪪

Active CA RVT licensure

All technicians hold a current California RVT license, are in good standing with the Veterinary Medical Board, and carry 3–5 years minimum hands-on experience.

📋

Written standing orders

Clinical services are only performed under written orders tied to an active Veterinarian–Client–Patient Relationship. No VCPR, no clinical service — full stop.

🚫

No diagnosis or prescribing

We do not diagnose, prescribe, treat, or provide emergency care. We execute delegated tasks only, within the statutory scope of California RVT practice.

📄

Standardized visit documentation

Every visit generates a structured report of services performed and objective measurements — returned to the attending clinic without interpretation or assessment.

🛡️

Insured for in-home services

We carry general and professional liability coverage specifically for in-home veterinary technician services in California.

👔

W-2 employees, not contractors

Every RVT and support staff member is a W-2 employee. This ensures accountability, quality control, and compliance with California labor law.

Common Questions

What pet owners ask

Does my vet have to be involved?
Yes — and that's by design. All clinical services require written authorization from your veterinarian. RVT In-Home Pet Care works with your pet's existing vet, not around them. If your vet isn't yet familiar with us, we can reach out to introduce the program.
What is a VCPR? Why is it legally necessary?
A Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) means your veterinarian knows your pet and is actively overseeing their care. Because RVTs work under a veterinarian’s direction, California law requires an established VCPR before services can be provided. This helps ensure your pet’s care is safe, appropriate, and connected to their overall medical plan.
Who is the RVT that comes to my home?
All technicians are licensed California RVTs with a minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on clinical experience, employed directly by us (not gig workers). You can see your assigned RVT's credentials before any visit.
What happens after each visit?
A standardized report including services performed, objective measurements, and patient behavior is sent directly to your veterinary clinic after every visit. If the RVT observes anything that requires follow-up, your clinic is notified immediately.
Is this covered by pet insurance?
Coverage varies by plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider. We provide detailed visit documentation that you can submit to your insurer.
What areas do you serve?
We are currently operating in select areas of California, with planned expansion to additional regions. Enter your zip code when requesting a visit to confirm availability in your area.
